What Logan County Release Means
A Logan County release marks the end of one custody episode. It does not always mean the person is free of all custody or court control. Someone may leave Logan County Jail after posting bond, completing a county sentence, receiving a dismissal, or getting another court order. Another person may leave because the jail transferred them to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, another jail, federal authorities, or immigration custody. The release record must name the event or receiving custodian before the result can be understood.
The sheriff's roster is a current or recent operational tool. A person who has left the jail may no longer appear. The record that matters after that point is often the booking and release record, paired with the court docket. State-prison discharge has a different trail in ODRC. Federal and immigration custody have their own locators. Matching the source to the custody type prevents a transfer from being mistaken for a community release.
- Discharge
- The formal end of a custody or supervision term recorded by the responsible agency.
- Time served
- A sentence outcome in which credited time fulfills the custodial term then calculated.
- Detainer
- A request or hold that can move a person to another custodian when local custody ends.
- Community control
- Ohio court supervision commonly called local probation.
Logan County Release Types
The legal reason for departure determines where the next reliable record appears. Bond lets a person leave pretrial confinement subject to court duties, but it does not decide guilt. A dismissal or acquittal comes from the court record. A completed jail term may end physical custody, while a felony prison commitment starts a new state-custody stage. Parole, post-release control, and local probation all involve community supervision, yet they are administered by different offices.
| Release event | What it means | Best next source |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or recognizance | Pretrial jail custody ends under a court order and conditions. | Logan jail record and the correct court docket |
| Time served or sentence end | The county custodial term then calculated is complete. | Release record and sentencing entry |
| Dismissal or acquittal | The court resolves the charge without a conviction on that count. | Final journal entry plus jail departure time |
| Prison commitment | Local custody ends through transfer to ODRC. | ODRC offender record |
| Judicial release or parole | A court or parole process authorizes community release, often with supervision. | ODRC status, release detail, and court journal |
| Federal or ICE transfer | Logan custody ends while another custodian takes control. | BOP, ICE, federal docket, or owning agency |
A signed order and the physical release time can differ. Jail processing may continue after a bond or release order is filed. Confirm both the legal authority and the actual handoff or departure.
Logan County Release Record Fields
A focused Logan County release record identifies the person and the precise custody episode. Agencies may store the fields across a booking sheet, release log, court docket, and transfer record rather than in one document. Ask for the fields as maintained. The sheriff's app promotion shows some roster cards with release date and time, but it does not establish a full release-reason field or a fixed period of public access.
| Field | What it establishes |
|---|---|
| Full name and date of birth | Identity, especially when names repeat |
| Booking or inmate number | The specific Logan jail episode |
| Booking date and time | When local custody began |
| Release date and time | When that jail episode ended |
| Release disposition | Bond, sentence completion, transfer, or another maintained outcome |
| Receiving custodian | Whether the person moved to ODRC, another jail, or another authority |
| Booking photograph | The image tied to that booking, subject to access limits |
Does a release timestamp prove freedom? It proves the end of the named facility's custody. It does not rule out a transfer, a detainer, a new case, or supervision. Read the disposition and receiving-custodian fields with the time.
Request Logan County Release Records
For jail records, start with Logan County Jail or the Sheriff's Office at the same county facility. The Sheriff's report-copy channel expressly addresses crash and offense reports, not a guaranteed booking-sheet or release-log service. The sound approach is to call the jail first, identify the specific record, and ask which office holds it. The county publishes no fixed booking-record fee, photo fee, response deadline, or retention period.
- Give the full name, date of birth if known, booking number if known, and the approximate custody dates.
- Ask for the booking sheet, release date and time, release disposition, receiving custodian, and booking photograph as maintained.
- Request electronic copies when useful and ask for a cost estimate before copies or postage are charged.
- If material is withheld or redacted, ask the office to identify the legal basis.
- Compare the response with the correct court journal and any later ODRC record.

Ohio law generally permits inspection and copies within a reasonable time, but reasonable time depends on the request and the records. A narrow request is easier to locate and review. Medical, victim, security, juvenile, sealed, or otherwise protected information may be withheld or redacted.
Note: Ask whether the release disposition sits in a separate log when the booking sheet contains only the admission and departure times.
Ohio Law on Logan Release Records
Ohio Revised Code 149.43 governs public-record inspection, copies, actual-cost charges, and explanations for redactions. It does not make every piece of a jail or prison file public. Sealing orders, juvenile confidentiality, health and victim protections, security limits, and active law-enforcement exemptions may restrict some material. Remote visibility is not the same as legal retention.
ODRC records follow a more specific rule. ORC 5120.21 makes the whole inmate record generally confidential while allowing disclosure of items such as name, convictions, photograph, supervision status, incarceration locations, and disciplinary history. A request to ODRC Central Records should seek discrete release or status fields rather than demand the full institutional file.
Getting Home After Logan Release
Release travel takes planning because Logan County Jail and the public transit point documented by Bellefontaine are not the same place. The jail is on County Road 32 S. The city's GoBus information identifies a stop at the Logan County Senior Center on S. Main Street and lists fares from $5 to $25. GoBus is not described as a jail pickup service.
A family member or the released person must arrange the gap, confirm current service, and account for any age or scheduling limits. Logan County does not publish a routine release door, regular release hour, waiting area, property-return process, or official ride service. Call the jail before traveling. A court's filing time should not be used to predict when processing will finish.
Find Logan County Released Inmates
Begin with the agency that owned the custody episode. Logan County Jail, ODRC, BOP, ICE, and the courts use different identifiers and status terms. A name alone is not enough. Compare date of birth or age, booking number, offender number, docket number, committing county, and the source timestamp before treating two records as the same person.
- For a Logan arrest or county sentence, check the official Sheriff app as a recent lead, then call the jail for confirmation.
- Search the appropriate Logan court docket for bond, dismissal, sentence, jail credit, community control, commitment, or judicial release.
- If the docket shows an Ohio prison commitment, search ODRC by offender number or identity and read the status and release detail.
- Use VINE for a custody-change alert, not as a certified historical record.
- For federal or immigration custody, use BOP or ICE instead of the county app.
- When online tools fail, request the record from the office that created it.

Logan County Court Release Trail
Logan's court path splits by case level. Common Pleas and Clerk eServices hold felony proceedings. Bellefontaine Municipal Court handles municipal misdemeanor, traffic, and preliminary matters within its jurisdiction. A preliminary felony matter can begin in Municipal Court and later move to Common Pleas, so the docket may require both searches.
The Logan County court eServices can show bond orders, dispositions, sentences, jail-time credit, prison commitments, community-control terms, judicial release, revocation, and termination. Confirm the case number and read the chronological journal. An order supplies the legal basis, while the jail or ODRC record supplies the actual release or transfer event.
The official court gateway appears below. It is a docket source, not a live jail roster.
Open Logan County court eServices before comparing the case dates.
The search screen helps locate the legal trail that can remain available after a recent jail card disappears.
Note: A judicial order can authorize release before the jail completes identity checks, paperwork, property return, and any custodian handoff.
ODRC Search for Logan Releases
The ODRC Offender Search covers people incarcerated in Ohio prisons, under Department supervision, or judicially released. It is not a history of every Logan County Jail booking. A person who bonded out locally without entering state custody may never appear. Search with an exact offender number when available, or use a last name with sparse filters and verify the match.
| Search field | Use | Caution |
|---|---|---|
| Name | Last name alone or first and last | Broad surname matching can return longer names |
| Offender number | Exact A, R, or W prefix plus six digits | Keep leading zeroes |
| County of Commitment | Limit to the sentencing county | Not the same as prison location |
| Status | Incarcerated, Released, APA Supervision, or Violator at Large | Read the detail record, not the filter alone |
| Hearing month | Next Parole Board Hearing Date in YYYYMM | A hearing month is not a release date |
The exact date field is “Expected Release Date/Parole Eligibility Date.” It may be a projected date or an eligibility date pending parole review. Confirm a completed release through Status, Parole or Release Detail, POA/PRD information, and supervision start when present.

The form separates state custody and supervision from a county-jail-only release.
Logan County App Release Limits
The Sheriff's Corrections page directs roster users to a free app instead of a conventional web roster. Its official promotion depicts the “Logan SO” inmate roster with name, date, or inmate ID search. Sample cards show a photograph, name, inmate ID, age, booking date and time, and sometimes a release date and time.
No official separate 24-hour feed, 72-hour feed, update schedule, released filter, or post-release retention period was verified. A date search may provide a lead, but it must not be described as a guaranteed rolling archive. When a person is absent, call Logan County Jail and ask whether the episode ended in community release or transfer. Request the supporting record when a verbal answer is not enough.
Logan County Post-Release Supervision
State and local supervision are separate. The Ohio Adult Parole Authority, part of ODRC, handles parole, post-release control, and certain judicial releases. Logan County Adult Probation handles local court community-control cases. An ODRC status of APA Supervision can show a supervision start, period, and APA office. It should not be used to infer local probation.
For a local case, read the judgment and community-control order in the proper Logan docket, then contact Adult Probation if verification is needed. The office publishes no public supervisee lookup, general officer assignment, or check-in schedule. A last-recorded ODRC residential county or ZIP may be stale and should not be treated as a current address. Logan County parole and probation use separate verification routes.
Adult Reentry After Logan Release
Logan County Jail documents work release, GED classes, religious services, and mental-health and substance-use counseling during custody. The corrections page does not identify an adult post-release reentry office or promise that those programs continue after release. A custody program should not be represented as a community service without a source that says it continues.
The Reach is a no-cost navigation and diversion center for Logan County youth ages eight through eighteen. It is not an adult reentry program. Adults should use the specific court, supervision office, health provider, or service agency named in their release plan rather than being routed to a youth-only resource.
Logan County Release Alert Channels
Ohio VINE provides custody-status searches and event notifications through phone, text, email, in-app, or TTY channels, subject to the participating agency feed. Attach an alert to the correct person and custody agency. A VINE notice is a prompt to verify the event with Logan County Jail or ODRC, not a certified discharge record. No match can result from a spelling issue, a delay, a transfer, a retention limit, or a feed problem.
Federal sentences require the BOP Inmate Locator. A past release date with a RELEASED location indicates that BOP custody ended, though federal supervision or another jurisdiction can continue. The ICE Online Detainee Locator uses an A-number and country of birth, or exact identity fields, and can cover some people recently released from ICE custody. A Logan-to-ICE handoff is a transfer, not proof of community release. USMS has no comparable public person locator.
Released Versus Held in Logan County
Use the status that belongs to the agency and note its timestamp. A stale card can remain after a change, while an alert may arrive after the source event. The later owning-agency record carries more weight than an undated copy or a news report.
| Situation | Primary source | What confirms release |
|---|---|---|
| Current or recent Logan jail custody | Sheriff app and jail | Release timestamp plus disposition or custodian |
| Older Logan jail episode | Sheriff record and court docket | Booking/release record matched to the journal |
| Ohio state prisoner | ODRC Offender Search | Released or APA status with post-event detail |
| Federal prisoner | BOP Inmate Locator | Past release date and RELEASED location |
| Immigration custody | ICE ODLS and case paperwork | ICE disposition, subject to locator scope and lag |
| Local probation | Court judgment and Adult Probation | Community-control order and office verification |
What if two sources conflict? Prefer the agency that owned that custody stage and the later timestamp, then request the underlying record. Preserve the difference until the responsible office resolves it.
Logan County Jail Release History
The current Logan County Jail opened on November 18, 2000. The Sheriff's history describes a 45,000-square-foot facility that can accommodate up to 140 people and reports an original cost of $8.5 million. It replaced a 16,000-square-foot jail opened in 1983 with room for 34. An earlier two-story jail built in 1845 held 17.
Those figures describe the buildings, not today's jail count or an annual release total. The history matters because older court and jail records can refer to different facilities even though the county custody trail continues. It also explains why the present jail address should not be confused with the downtown court offices.
Logan County Release Facility
Logan County Jail is the only confirmed adult detention facility in the local Facility Map. It holds pretrial detainees and county-sentenced people under the Logan County Sheriff. A departure may lead to the community, local probation, ODRC, another jail, federal custody, or immigration custody. The release record and court docket distinguish those outcomes.
No adult state prison, federal prison, or dedicated ICE detention facility was identified inside Logan County in the official sources reviewed. A Logan prison commitment can be served at an ODRC institution elsewhere, and county of commitment does not identify the assigned prison. Federal and immigration searches remain agency-based rather than tied to an invented local facility.
